Quantellia White Papers

  • Navigating the Telecom Ship: The CEM Control Center Catalyst This white paper describes the CEM Control Center Catalyst, launched by TM Forum’s Decision Analytics team for the first time at Management World Nice 2010. This catalyst demonstrates a new approach to product management, where operational monitoring, data management and processing, and decision engineering and design approaches are used to provide a comprehensive “navigational” infrastructure to a product manager. We show how, by using this approach, the product manager can simultaneously balance cost, revenue, and investments that benefit customer experience KPIs to maximize outcomes of interest. We also show how operational monitoring can be used to manage repairs to the rollout process, as well as reconsidering decisions based in changes in key assumptions.

  • Overcoming the Complexity Ceiling Through Design focuses on the design stage of Decision Engineering. A case study compares the decision making processes in a traditional organization using informal decision-making techniques, and an organization implementing a Decision Engineering paradigm. Details of using various techniques such as clarifying Requirements and Specification and Decision Modeling are reviewed, along with graphical representations such as Decision Maps, Decision Models and World Diagrams.

  • High Performance Decision Making: A Global Study presents the results of a research study to understand the types of decisions faced by organizations worldwide. Based on 61 interviewees including conversations about hundreds of decisions, this study demonstrates the Decision Making Complexity Ceiling in a variety of situations. This research summary also describes the best practices that emerged from these interviews, and proposes the decision engineering framework as a unifying principle for addressing the systematic needs that this study discovered. This is the executive summary of this research project; please contact Quantellia for the full report.
